It’s no secret how much I love the 1980 film, MANIAC, and all of its raw brutality.  When I heard there was a remake in the works, I rolled my eyes in cynicism.  When I heard that Elijah Wood was playing the Maniac I felt that he was as threatening as Dakota Fanning.  Don’t get me wrong, he’s a solid actor and I’ve always been a fan of his work from THE GOOD SON to the FX series WILFRED but he doesn’t scream deranged, misogynistic serial killer to me.  As a slight man in a world of women like Gina Carano from HAYWIRE and Michelle Rodriguez from GIRLFIGHT (or even Amy Adams in THE FIGHTER) Elijah Wood hunting women down and mutilating them seemed unlikely.   However, upon viewing the newly released French trailer for the flick, I gotta say that I’m now very stoked.  His Maniac seems to be creepy in the sense of having a dead body in basement rather than physically imposing like the fantastic Joe Spinell from the original.  This remake seems like it’ll be a nice gritty, no-nonsense, no stars from a WB show, old school horror which makes me a very happy fellow.  If the  film is trully POV from Wood’s character, all the more better.  What do you think?  Check out the NSFW trailer below.
