Like the new HALLOWEEN movie, news about the upcoming RIVERDALE spinoff/companion series based on THE CHILLING STORIES OF SABRINA are being released piece by piece, day by day. Series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently shared an image of Sabrina (played by Kiernan Shipka) holding hands with her beau Harvey (played by Ross Lynch). The new series reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature – half-witch, half-mortal – while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.
As long as there are no overwrought mob storylines and gay characters serving only as tokens I’m all in. The freedom of this show being on Netflix should, hopefully, prevent some of the drawn-out storylines its parent series is currently facing.
No official release nor official title have been released, but this darker ‘SABRINA’ is expected to debut on Netflix sometime this year.
