Because the Monsterverse is now a thing the sequel to the box office smash, GODZILLA (2014), is coming soon. The trailer was recently revealed this weekend during ComiCon. The new film titled, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, follows in the footsteps of the earlier Monsterverse films including GODZILLA and KONG: SKULL ISLAND: bright colors, loud noises, scared kids, and an acclaimed TV actor prophesizing over the film’s events. However, the new movie introduces several new monsters to contend with everyone’s favorite radioactive lizard. As teased at the end of KONG, Godzilla will battle against Mothra, Rodan, and the badass, the three-headed King Ghidorah. I wasn’t a huge fan of Godzilla, with its misguided casting (Aaron Taylor-Johnson just wasn’t convincing) and uneven pacing, the film just didn’t move me. I was, however, a fan of the follow up KONG. The new movie looks like more of the same and I’m sure the boyfriend is going to drag me to the movie but at least it looks better than the first Godzilla. For what it’s worth, this gets me excited for the next follow up GODZILLA vs. KONG, which is set for release in 2020.
GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is scheduled for May 31, 2019. The film stars Vera Farmiga, Zhang Ziyi, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Anthony Ramos, Thomas Middleditch, and Charles Dance.
