For our Trailer Park series, we’re going to highlight effective genre movie trailers. While these clips are highlighted, this doesn’t necessarily speak to the quality of the film itself, only the effectiveness of the preview. Some films have excellent trailers but the film is terrible like The Nightmare on Elm Street remake, while for others, the opposite can be true like the original Friday the 13th.
THE WITCH is a highly effective 2015 film meticulously written and directed by Robert Eggers. The film, set in New England in 1630 follows husband and wife, William and Katherine, who try to lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impenetrable wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. THE WITCH is a haunting story about a family that unravels in the midst of unspeakable terror. It’s edge of your seat scary and sucks you in from the first frame to the end credits.
The trailer, narrated by actor Ralph Ineson who plays William, is beautiful and simultaneously frightening. THE WITCH is such a thrilling film that I can’t recommend enough. This is the type of jump-scare free horror film made for adults or horror fans who enjoy a thought-provoking story and Oscar-worthy acting from everyone involved.

I did. I was surprised at the turn it took but looking back it all made sense. Did you?

Yes, she was all alone but still didn’t like the ending. I guess I don’t know what I was hoping for.

It’s a good film. Definitely for people that can appreciate the slow burn approach.

Yeah, it’s definitely a movie that avoids the quick jump scares.
