Remember when little Zac Efron was singing corny love songs and playing…basketball? Was that the sport of choice in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL? I wasn’t the target audience for that franchise, but I am the target audience for his upcoming docudrama EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL, AND VILE. The true story casts Efron in the role of real-life serial killer, Ted Bundy. Bundy, who was convicted of the torture, rape, and murder of over 30 women and children (the real tally is widely believed to be a lot higher) throughout the 70s was nicknamed the “Lady Killer” in part due to his charisma and good looks. Also, because he killed mostly women. Casting Efron as a charismatic guy with good looks seems like a no-brainer. The upcoming story is told front the point of view of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins). Kloepfer, a single mother hoping Bundy would become the stepfather of her young daughter, would later discover her boyfriend’s insidious double life.
EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL, AND WILD is directed by Joe Berlinger (BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2-which is extremely underrated and quite good but more on that later) and will premier at Sundance early next year
