I’ll keep this brief because I contemplated even covering this movie but this trailer proves, once again that Hollywood has no shame. The trailer for THE HAUNTING OF SHARON TATE just released. The film stars Hilary Duff as Tate and Jonathan Bennett as Jay Sebring. For those who don’t know (how old are you anyway?) Sharon Tate was a very popular actress in the 1960s, rising to fame in hits such as VALLEY OF THE DOLLS and THE FEARLESS VAMPIRES. She and several of her friends were murdered in her home by members of the Charles Manson’s cult. Her death sent shockwaves through the industry and the brutality of her murder was made all the more tragic that she was 8-months pregnant with her baby with husband Roman Polanski. While other films were made that exploited her death (I’m looking at you WOLVES AT THE DOOR) the twist in this film is that Tate has continuous visions of her impending death before the tragic night. I much preferred Duff on GOSSIP GIRL where she was having threesomes with Dan and Vanessa. This film just feels distasteful, exploitive and completely tone-deaf. Daniel Farrands, who wrote… HALLOWEEN 6 and the upcoming sure-fire hit, THE MURDER OF NICHOLE BROWN SIMPSON, directed this mess.
