Horror villains: They make you run. They make you scream. They make you want to run up the stairs instead of out of the front door because they’re completely insulting. They can also be hot. Let’s face it, some of the best horror villains are played by guys whos disarming good looks can arrest your fear and make you want to run towards them instead of the opposite direction. In volume 3 of this series will highlight 5 of those guys at a time. Let’s see if you agree.
Chris Sarandon
Fright Night (1985)
NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2 wasn’t the only homoerotic mainstream horror film of 1985. Thanks to Chris Sarandon’s role as sexy vampire Jerry Dandridge, FRIGHT NIGHT glistened with intense sensuality. Sarandon’s hypnotic performance is legendary and will still maintain the title of the sexiest onscreen vampire. Sorry team Edward fans.
Duane Jones
Night Of The Living Dead (1968)
Duane Jones made cinematic history as Ben in George Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Jones was the first (and still only one of few) Black actors to lead a mainstream horror film. While Ben was resourceful and resilient, he was also authoritative and strong. He took control and showed everyone who was boss. Jones also displayed his sexy leading man aura in the criminally underseen vampire film, GANJA & HESS which came a few years later.
Skeet Ulrich & Matthew Lillard
SCREAM (1996)
Billy (Ulrich) and Stu (Lillard) were the gay couple of the 90’s amiright? The tangible homoeroticism between these two movie-obsessed psychopaths was so thick that it glossed over the screen. They were horror’s hottest gay couple since Jesse and Grady from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2 which was over a decade before SCREAM. Too bad they had to kill a bunch of innocent people instead of going to Fire Island in the summer like any other self-respecting gay teen.
Tyler Mane
HALLOWEEN (2007) & HALLOWEEN II (2009)
284 different people have played Michael Michaels over the last 41 years but only of them would actually qualify as a zaddy (don’t worry- I hate myself now too). Tyler Mane was truly the one bright spot for me in the HALLOWEEN remake series. This former pro-wrestler turned actor made a big, bulging, muscular Michael with the frazzled beard and rage behind his eyes… I think I may now have a type.
