SCREAM: THE SERIES Returns Instead of a New Movie

The SCREAM television series, now called SCREAM: RESURRECTION is getting revived for a 6-episode mini-series which will begin airing this July.  The first 2 seasons had a successful run on MTV, but the long-delayed third season, which also serves as a complete reboot, will transition to VH-1.  Of course, I’m wondering if the makeup of the cast and the current slate of VH-1’s programming was part of the reason for the network transition.  According to Variety, the reboot, which is produced by Queen Latifah revolves around Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler), a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.  The new case will include Mary J. Blige, Tyga (God help us), Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Giorgia Whigham, CJ Wallace, Jessica Sula, and Giullian Yao Gioiello.  Returning to the SCREAM franchise is the original Ghostface mask, who was absent in the previous seasons, and Roger Jackson who provided the creepy-ass voice of Ghostface in the SCREAM movies.

SCREAM: RESURRECTION will debut on VH-1 on July 8 for 2 one-hour episodes three nights in a row.  This smells like a series burnoff before moving to Netflix for a more lucrative package but what do I know?  Are you excited for the new season?  Do you wish we would’ve gotten the previously promised SCREAM 5 and SCREAM 6 instead?  Let me know what you think in the comments.
