It looks like we have a potential new Halloween franchise on our hands thanks to Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier. The creative duo behind MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D and DRIVE ANGRY (which Farmer sent me an autographed blu ray of when it came out) returns with the upcoming TRICK. Admittedly, I thought this was the in-the-works reboot of the gay indie comedy, also called TRICK, starting Christian Campbell and JP Pitoc, but a horror movie from these guys is the next best thing.
According to Deadline, The plot is set in a small town, where a masked madman visits every Halloween. Detective Mike Denver (Omar Epps) will stop at nothing to discover who he is and how to stop him. TRICK also stars Jamie Kennedy, Ellen Adair and Tom Adkins.
Since we’re not getting a TRICK ‘R TREAT sequel anytime soon, I’m happy to see another new horror franchise centered around Halloween that could become an annual event. After all, Michael Myers shouldn’t have all the fun.
I’m really looking forward to this one. Farmer and Lussier have a record of making fun, self-aware horror films with a comedic streak. TRICK will be released in theaters and digital on October 18th.
