What happens when you’re promoting a reboot of an Americanized reboot of THE GRUDGE at New York Comic Con? You’ll be asked about the future of THE EVIL DEAD franchise instead. Cinematic arteeste Sam Raimi was at the NYCC yesterday, fielding questions about the Lin Shay & John Cho-lead THE GRUDGE reboot (coming in January) when he confirmed we have more EVIL DEAD coming our way. According to Arrowinthehead.com, Raimi revealed that a new EVIL DEAD movie is in the works with Bruce Campbell returning…as a producer. Sadly, EVIL DEAD 2013 director, Fede Alvarez, won’t be returning to the director’s chair so the hunt is on for a new director who can continue the series.
I absolutely LOVE the 2013 version of EVIL DEAD. It remains, in my opinion, one of the best horror remakes/sequels in recent memory and honored the original film in such a wonderful way that I’m totally on board for future installments. No word on casting, but with Bruce Campbell retiring the role of Ash after the cancellation of ASH VS THE EVIL DEAD series, I’m a bit disappointed that the new movie won’t see a team up of Ash and Mia (Jane Levy) that was previously hinted.
Since this news was just announced there’s no word on the plot, casting nor production start date, but stay tuned and I’ll keep you in the loop.
