While yelling across the house, I told my partner there’s another TEXAS CHAINSAW REBOOT coming. He screamed, “Again! Didn’t they already reboot it twice?” Technically this is the third or fourth reboot considered LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3 and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION were originally produced as soft reboots of the franchise under new series ownership. In any case, producer Fede Alvarez (EVIL DEAD; DON’T BREATHE) is schlepping along with a new take on everyone’s favorite Texan cannibals. Ryan and Andy Tohill have been tapped to direct a script from Chris Tomlin Devlin.
Alvarez recently told Variety, “Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want. It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.”
If anyone else said that I’d be more than skeptical, especially after two really subpar recent entries, however with the man who masterfully brought EVIL DEAD back to the big screens I think the new entry is in good hands. I’m not familiar with the Tohills or Devlin’s previous work but I trust Alvarez and hope this new installment will be a satisfying take on Leatherface and Co. … as long as it doesn’t feature an asinine scene like this…
