“Be afraid. Be very afraid.” Tim Burton’s upcoming Netflix series, WEDNESDAY, has found it’s titular star today… on a Wednesday. Jenna Ortega who you may recognize from THE BABYSITTER: KILLER QUEEN and the second season of YOU will headline the new ADDAMS FAMILY spinoff in the iconic role.

The dark, supernatural comedy follows Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. That’s where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships. This sounds like an appropriate successor to THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA which left it’s legion of fans in an uproar after it’s abrupt cancellation. I can’t say this new show is exactly my cup of tea, but I’m intrigued to see how this property is guided by Tim Burton. I hope this is more of the BEETLEJUICE/BATMAN RETURNS Tim Burton and less of the CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY/DARK SHADOWS Tim Burton. It’s also exciting to see the rise of Jenna Ortega in the horror genre, especially with her being one of the stars of the upcoming SCREAM relaunch.

Production is still in the early stages so there’s no word, yet, on when Wednesday will be released…but I bet it’ll be on a Wednesday. Stay tuned for more news as the series gears up for production.
