First Look at I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Summer (TV Series 2021– ) - IMDb

2021 has been…eventful for me, to say the least. After taking a little sabbatical for myself I’ve come back to the blogging world only to witness the first extremely subpar trailer for the upcoming I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER series. The new series, which has James Wan as one of the executive producers, attempts to reimagine the story made famous in the 1997 slasher and the 1973 Lois Duncan novel of the same name- just with nondescript actors. The official synopsis is as follows:

One year after the fatal car accident that haunted their graduation night, a group of teenagers find themselves bound together by a dark secret and stalked by a brutal killer. As they try to piece together who’s after them, they reveal the dark side of their seemingly perfect town —and themselves. Everyone is hiding something, and uncovering the wrong secret could be deadly.

Is it just me or is the tone of the trailer giving SCREAM: THE SERIES vibes? The teaser didn’t suggest suspense, horror or even Ryan Phillippe look alike. I suppose the look of the killer was deliberately hidden to encourage anticipation and interest. I suppose. While I can’t say I have much interest nor anticipation in a serialized format of I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER I am intrigued as to how the new series will distinguish itself from the earlier films. Will they do the smart thing and make the “Helen” character the lead? Will Barry and Ray be a couple in the series? Do we get a Bridgette Wilson-Sampras stand-in? In any case, make sure your Prime account is paid and active when the series makes its debut on Friday, October 15th. I’m sure you’ll be watching HALLOWEEN KILLS instead, but maybe the next day if there’s nothing else on TV give this one a try. At least it’s not I WILL ALWAYS KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER.
