Full disclosure- I’m a huge fan of the INSIDIOUS franchise. The original installment was a fresh take on the “haunted house” trope and it’s one of the few modern horror films whose jump scares didn’t make me want to throw myself out of the window. The sequels, while not as strong, were still very good and did the smart thing by showcasing the series true star…Lin Shaye. Shay’s clairvoyant Elaine quickly became the focus of the series thanks to the veteran actress’s maternal-like performance. Due to the success of the series it’s no surprise that the fourth film is on its way in January. This time, the series forgoes it’s “Chapter: 4” subtitle for the Walmart DVD-bin worthy, INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY. How do I roll my eyes at that title with words? According to IMDB, the plot follows Dr. Elise Rainier, the brilliant parapsychologist, [as she] faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet: in her own family home. Okaaaaayyyy… Adam Robitel takes over directing duties from Leigh Whannell in this prequel to a prequel. INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY is scheduled for theaters January 5th, 2018.
